Domaine Rene Monnier was founded in 1723 and the Monnier Family has built up one of the biggest private domains in the Cote du Beaune. To date there are 18 hectares of vineyards in the best selected Cru areas of Burgundy.

It is now in the hands of the tenth generation of this remarkable family. All the wines are skilfully made by Xavier Monnot who has the arduous task of tending the difficult Pinot Noir grapes and ensuring their consistency each year.

The white wines are fresh and stylish often avoiding excessive use of oak. The reds are the epitome of fine Burgundy, showing integrated oak and time but fine tannins on the finish. This demonstrates the balanced silky style of the wines of this great house.

Great attention is paid to limiting the yields in the vineyards. This guarantees the best possible quality of juice, with superb balance between fruit and acidity. Pinot Noir is a notorious grape that needs tender care and lots of attention.

Pinot Noir been described by Larry Cherubino and Australian winemaker of great renown as a “Cruel Mistress“. Mr Cherubino even went as far as to name one of his wines by the same name. Burgundians and Antipodeans seem to have the same issues no matter where this grape is planted.

Some of the best bargains from this estate are the Rene Monnier Bourgogne Chardonnay. This wine uses the overspill of fruit from their Mersault but they age it slightly differently in oak and it uses the slightly lesser fruit. The result is a Mersault at a fraction of the price of normal Mersault and it is one of the best bargains ion the wine world.

The same applies to the Rene Monnier Bourgogne Pinot Noir where the excess fruit used for their Beaune 1er cru is used to produce this outstanding value red Burgundy.

This estate specialise in Mersault and Puligny Montrachet white wines. They start with the superb bargain white Bourgogne Chardonnay.

These wines are created to age well and their structure and consistency is legendary.
